"The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Head Office and Garden complex opened to the public in 1969.
A collaborative, multidisciplinary team of architects, landscape architects, engineers, and technical experts used cutting-edge technology in all project areas. From the start, they paid minute attention to energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Over the years, all maintenance and new safety regulation compliance measures have strictly respected the original concept, materials, and construction principles. The constant aim is to preserve the project’s singular identity.
The Head Office and Garden became the first modern complex to be classified by the Portuguese State as a National Monument in 2010. It has long been an international landmark of contemporary architecture and landscaping."
